We tracked three companies and the interest activity data helped us understand real demand. The clean, organised view meant zero friction during research — exactly what a corporate treasury needs.

Researching unlisted companies for multiple HNI clients used to mean endless phone calls and opaque pricing. Altstock gave us clear indicative data and one organised view our compliance team actually approved.

FAQs

Common questions, answered.

Everything you need to know about accessing and using Altstock.

Altstock is intended for sophisticated, eligible investors — including HNIs, UHNIs, family offices, and corporates. Full KYC verification is required before any expression of interest can be submitted.
All prices on Altstock are indicative only and reflect expressions of interest logged by verified users. They do not constitute binding offers, buy/sell recommendations, or research reports. Altstock does not execute, settle, or facilitate transactions.
After completing verification and gaining platform access, you can navigate to any company profile and log your indicative interest at your preferred price level. This is an information entry only — it is not an order, offer, or commitment of any kind.
Altstock is an information platform. It is not a SEBI-registered research analyst, investment adviser, stock broker, or portfolio manager, and it does not execute or facilitate transactions. All content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute regulated financial services.
No. Altstock only displays indicative pricing and interest information. Any transaction in unlisted securities happens entirely outside the platform, between the parties themselves through their own advisers, brokers, and depository accounts. Altstock is not involved in negotiation, documentation, or settlement.
Private securities are illiquid and subject to transfer restrictions, ROFR clauses, and regulatory constraints. Capital loss, including total loss, is possible. These investments are suitable only for sophisticated investors with a long-term horizon. Consult a SEBI-registered adviser before making any investment decision.
Unlisted shares are equity — or instruments like CCPS — of companies that have not yet listed on an exchange such as the NSE or BSE. They are typically late-stage startups, pre-IPO businesses, large subsidiaries, and established private firms. Altstock tracks 50+ such Indian and global names across sectors including fintech, consumer, SaaS, capital markets, and energy.
Unlisted shares are held in the same demat account you use for listed stocks and carry a unique ISIN under CDSL or NSDL. They appear in your depository statement — for example CDSL easi or NSDL Speed-e — alongside any listed holdings, with no separate custody arrangement needed.
Profits are treated as capital gains, and the holding period decides the head. Sell within 24 months and the gain is short-term, taxed at your applicable income-tax slab; hold beyond 24 months and it is long-term, currently taxed at 12.5% without indexation. Rules and rates change over time and depend on your circumstances — confirm the specifics with a qualified tax advisor. Altstock does not provide tax advice.
NRIs can generally hold unlisted Indian securities, subject to FEMA regulations, RBI sectoral caps, and repatriation rules, usually via an NRO or NRE-linked demat account. Eligibility varies by company and instrument, so verify your specific situation with your bank and a qualified adviser before proceeding.
Because unlisted shares trade over-the-counter rather than on an exchange, exits generally happen through a privately negotiated sale, a company tender or buyback where one is offered, or holding until the company lists via IPO. Liquidity is lower than for listed stocks, so an exit can take time and the price is negotiated between the parties themselves, outside Altstock.
They can. If a company's board declares a dividend, unlisted shareholders are entitled to it just as listed shareholders are. In practice, many growth-stage private companies reinvest earnings rather than distribute them, so dividends are often modest or absent until the business matures.
Private securities are illiquid and can carry transfer restrictions, so they generally suit a multi-year horizon rather than short-term goals. There is no guaranteed exit date — an IPO or secondary sale may take years — and capital loss, including total loss, is possible. This is general information only, not investment advice.
Participants are typically interested in exposure to a company before it lists, and in diversifying beyond public-market holdings. Whether that interest works out depends entirely on how the business performs and whether a liquidity event such as an IPO or secondary sale eventually occurs — outcomes are uncertain, the holdings are illiquid, and capital loss including total loss is possible. This is context only, not a recommendation to invest.
Any change in value rests on the company's performance and on an eventual exit — an IPO, buyback, or secondary sale — none of which is assured. These are higher-risk, illiquid instruments, so the result can be positive, negligible, or a loss, up to total loss of capital. Altstock provides information only and does not promise returns or offer investment advice; assess your own situation and consult a SEBI-registered adviser.
